ABOUT GENERATION Z
“As the first real digital natives, Gen Zers—speaking generally—are extremely online. Gen Zers are known for
working,
shopping, dating, and making friends online; in Asia, Gen Zers spend six or more hours per day on their phones.”
(What is Gen Z? McKinsey & Co., August 28, 2024)
For my senior thesis, I wanted to explore Gen Z’s unique relationship with technology. Through secondhand and
primary
research, I am attempting to answer questions such as: “What defines gen Z?” and “How has technology shaped our
generation?”.
By recording in depth interviews with peers of various backgrounds, I found common themes of identity, overexposure,
and
concern for technology. Using this research in addition to many secondary sources, I composed a collection of
interactable animations designed to represent these commonalities to the user. Using randomized variables, there is
a
generative aspect to these designs to reflect how all experiences are unique yet similar between Gen Z individuals.
My
research, interviews, and other important media will be archived on generationz.world and will be displayed as a
physical installation at the Year End Show, immersing viewers by embracing interaction; letting them share and
become a
part of this interactive experience.
